An “event” is anything that happens in a lift and is recorded in M2CS. We could either not classify events or classify them by type, and each type could be a cold number or a common word… and we thought of using common words, but giving them very specific meanings… and so we came up with the 10 words in three groups:
NORMALLY OCCURRING THINGS: From most to least relevant, FACT, MARK and TRACE.
In the M2CS Operation Manual we will find the description of each type of event and from the EVENTS tool in LIFT MAINTENANCE, we can filter by each of these events and from different views to focus our attention on what we are trying to find.

What’s a scheduled task?

A scheduled task is the way we tell M2CS to notify us when either condition A or B occurs:A) The lift has made the trips we have scheduled.B) Or the days we have programmed have elapsed.
At all times we can see how this task is progressing in the ALERTS section and the color indicates whether it has exceeded 75% (AMBER) or 100% (RED).And we can decide to restart the task with the same values or wait for the task to expire and indicate it to us in the lift icon on the main LIFTMAINTENANCE screen or, if we want, generate a notice by e-mail.
If we associate to this M2CS scheduled task our list of actions to be carried out when it is fulfilled, we will have a way of organizing our maintenance actions conditioned to the real activity of the lift or to the time elapsed since the last action carried out.

Using templates

Hundreds of events put us on the track of what is happening in the lifts we maintain; hundreds of lifts are experiencing the passage of time; and if we do not choose our mail notices carefully, we can be faced with an endless inbox of incoming mail. In addition, we need to make the most of our resources by carrying out maintenance tasks that consider the actual time of use and stress of each lift and the lifespan of its various mechanical parts. How can M2CS help us?
The answer lies in the M2CS templates of notices and tasks:
1) Select the basic notices and the specific lift events you want to accurately monitor.2) Set the time patterns and/or operations (tasks) that you want to synchronize your maintenance activity with.3) Create templates for different types of lifts and apply these templates to all lifts… and let M2CS work for you.



Event notice

In addition to the generic notices already seen in previous articles, M2CS can send specific notices by email when certain events occur that we have marked in the MAINTENANCE / CONFIGURATION / LIFTS portal.
Of all the possible events that are generated in the lift, we can mark all those that appear in the lift configuration window. But for our own good, we should limit the impulse to select many events to send notices, if we do not want M2CS to flood us with dozens of notices from different lifts. This is therefore an option that should be used sparingly and only if we are interested in detecting events relevant to our maintenance process.
We must remember that, whether they send a notice or not, the events of the last four months will be in M2CS and we will be able to analyze them with the M2CS event analysis tools.



Backup… what for?

M2CS has a backup copy of the lift parameters and at any time, the lift parameters can be restored from the previously made copy.
The backup copy includes the parameters of the control CPU and theparameters of the VVVF frequency converter.
Its main use is when the CPU or VVVF needs to be replaced, and although this does not usually happen, if it does, it saves many hours of testing and adjustment to make the lift operational again. It is advisable to keep the backup up to date, as over the years we may change the parameters to meet new requirements of the lift users.
By means of the “Outdated backup” alert, M2CS notifies us of changes in parameters with respect to the last copy and if we have configured the notification by mail, we will also receive the notice by this means. To remove the alert from the list, we will have to replace the changed parameters and compare them again, or we will have to make a new backup




In M2CS, a critical parameter is one that is related to compliance with a regulatory requirement, and therefore its modification may result in non-compliance. In the parameter menu of the M2CS console, these parameters can be recognized by the “danger” icon.
Authorized personnel may need to modify any of these parameters for various reasons and if this happens, M2CS will generate the corresponding alert, which will be reflected as a red triangle in the lift icon and the corresponding text in the alert window.
If we have also checked the notice checkbox in MAINTENANCE / CONFIGURATION / LIFTS or in the template used, if we are a user with permission, we will also receive an e-mail indicating the modification of the parameter.
To deactivate this alert, we only have two options:
1) Reset the parameter to its initial value.2) Make a backup copy, thus confirming the change made.




We all know that temporary faults appear in a lift, some of them almost imperceptible in their first manifestations, but as time goes by they are repeated more frequently and can finally end up in a breakdown that leaves the lift without service and requires urgent intervention.
A slack in a door or a friction in the door guide; slippage in the traction cable; contactors with symptoms of wear; leaks in a valve of the hydraulic unit; etc. are perceived by the users as delays or micro stops, but they do not suspend the service.
With the fault frequency alert visible on the lift icon and its corresponding notice by e-mail, we can make M2CS alert us when the number of faults per hour and per day exceeds the value that we set in M2CS MAINTENANCE / CONFIGURATION / LIFTS / FAULTS PER (hour and day) and FAULT FREQUENCY NOTICE (if in addition to the alert, we also want to receive the notice by e-mail).




An M2CS “notice” is always an e-mail to a user registered in the Lift Maintenance account. And to receive notices, in the user’s configuration tab we must enter their email address and we must also tick the “Receive notices” checkbox.
From that moment on, the user will receive notices from the group or groups of lifts to which that user has access, according to their user privileges. On the other hand, in the configuration of each lift, we must tick the checkboxes of the notices that this lift will send, starting with the 2 basic ones: “Immediate notice for being out of service” and “Notice of frequency fault”.

Carlos Silva renews the agreement with FEEDA

Carlos Silva renews the agreement as a collaborating partner with FEEDA Federación Empresarial Española de Ascensores, an agreement that was established last July 2021. This first year of collaboration has allowed Carlos Silva to be closer to the future technological needs posed by the FEEDA partners.

Our company’s firm commitment to the IoT environment for lifts positions M2CS as a benchmark in lift telemanagement, allowing companies in the sector to have a control and prevention environment for their lift fleet.




With a maintenance company account and once the three steps for registering the ARM module have been completed, the lift to which it is connected appears in M2CS and it is no longer necessary to do anything else, neither in M2CS nor in the lift control panel.
From that moment on, M2CS puts in your hands all the monitoring capacity, all the flexibility to adjust the lift and its future historical evolution in the form of classified and dated events.
And if you want to get the most out of M2CS, you can explore the different e-mail notices, from the basic ones for change of status and fault frequency, to the notices for programmed tasks that you can create yourself using templates applicable to your different types of lifts, all described in the M2CS operation manual.




Wave propagation is subject to physical constraints, just like the braking capacity of a car or the drag of an aircraft. Technology allows us to reach the physical limits, but never exceed them, and if the ARM module is located in a place with a poor telephony signal (low altitude, underground…) or with obstacles to its propagation (cabinets or metal frames…), the connection will be bad or erratic.
Is it possible to see the SIGNAL LED amber or even green, and have connection problems? Yes. This indicates that the ARM is receiving enough signal from the telephony antenna, but because of the location of the ARM, its signal is not propagating correctly in the opposite direction.
M2CS shows the final signal level of the ARM, if it achieves connection, or indicates that the ARM is disconnected from M2CS (even if it is powered). And in case of connection problems, we can only ask you to please install the ARM in a place with a good signal (amber or green SIGNAL LED) and, moreover, more than 1m away from metal surfaces (cabinets, frames, the lift car itself…)




M2CS is an anonymous service offered by Carlos Silva SAU to any lift maintenance company. And following our privacy policy (see M2CS Terms of Use –, M2CS offers each company its own Private Lift Space (PLS) in which to define its users and incorporate its lifts. And no one outside this PLS can access it, not even Carlos Silva SAU.
From Carlos Silva SAU we carry out remote technical tasks on the connected ARM modules and their SIM cards. But under no circumstances can we access the lifts in the PLSs of the maintenance companies. This is because of our privacy policy and because we have developed M2CS under this premise.
And the only way foreseen in M2CS for our technical assistance team (TAS) to access a specific lift, is by invitation from an M2CS user of the company concerned. This user must have privileges for the lift in M2CS and, in addition, must know the PIN of its CPU (see p17 of the M2CS Operation Manual – The invitation does not reveal the PIN and is valid for 72h only.




This is sure to be a complicated task for which it will be essential to read the instructions first, at least once.
Although incorporating a lift into M2CS is a lot easier, it still seems easier after reading page 3 of the M2CS Operation Manual. It requires 3 steps using both portals.
1 – Register the ARM module with its serial number (NS) and PIN.2 – Create the lift in M2CS (if it does not already exist). Associate the registered ARM to this lift and choose the maintenance ID for this lift.
3 – Validate the registration with the administrator PIN of the CPU of thecontrol panel of the lift to be validated.And please keep the ARM and CPU PINs in a safe place.



Two portals and one destiny

M2CS has two portals with different functions, but with a single objective: The efficient maintenance of a whole fleet of lifts, managed remotely and conveniently.
ARM Module Management Portal: It concentrates the management of the ARM routers; their registration with NS and PIN; the registration of the lift to which the ARM will give life within M2CS; the assignment of the maintenance company for that lift; and the management of the M2CS service period linked to each ARM. The account has a single user manager, responsible for and guardian of the door keys to M2CS: The PINs of each ARM.
Lift Maintenance Portal: Each maintenance company or different branches of the same company create Private Lift Spaces (PLS). Each PLS has its initial administrator user and this, in turn, creates other users with different profiles (Administrator, Supervisor, Technician or Basic); it creates groups of lifts under maintenance and assigns operators to each group. Within each PLS, the Administrator (or Supervisor) configures M2CS in the way that best suits and helps the planning of their internal company management.



Is it necessary to download then APP?

M2CS, with its two distinct portals, is a 100% web-based application and does not require any downloads. Moreover, it is always up-to-date and accessible from any Internet terminal. You only need to find the addresses (URL) on our website in the Telemanagement section.
There are several ways to get to a web page quickly and browsers facilitate this task. But sometimes, what browsers store in the memory of our devices can give us some unpleasant surprises, and it is preferable to erase their memory often, thus losing the stored pages.
To avoid having to repeat the search for URL addresses, the best option is to add the two M2CS and ARM portals to the home screen of your smartphone and to the desktop or favourites of your PC. These are three steps that you will not have to repeat and will allow you to access the Lift Maintenance Portal and the ARM Module Management Portal quickly and conveniently. More details can be found in the M2CS operating manual.



It looks like a pizza, but it’s not

Never has such a familiar package enclosed something so useful. It’s not a pizza. It contains an ARM and is a router designed for M2CS, with functions specialized in the virtualization of our lift control systems. If you find it, do not hesitate: Register it in M2CS and install it in the lift using what you find in the box, and please put it in a place with good signal and away from metal cabinets or frames. By doing this, you will have created a virtual (digitized) lift in M2CS that will move like the real lift and will record the same activity. And even if you’re not looking at it, the virtual lift will follow the real one continuously, as long as the ARM is connected. This way, you can use the powerful tools and help for commissioning and maintenance that M2CS puts at your fingertips at any time. And all from a device with an Internet connection and a verified browser like Chrome, Firefox or Safari

Carlos Silva had a very special visit, the Grupo Ascensoristas Europeo G.A.E, a group of small and medium-sized companies in the elevator sector. The group has 20,000 installations under maintenance and 1,500 new-build and refurbishment installations per year. The G.A.E group works with the largest construction and engineering companies installing the full range of elevators, escalators and other vertical and horizontal transport installations.

The day began with the presentation of the Gesil SL group by Sandra Silva, director of the group, and a presentation of Carlos Silva SAU by Josep Corrons, director of the company, outlining values, objectives and indicative figures.

Next, we had the technical presentation of our HIDRA Crono and KDT Evo product families by Miguel Castillo, technical director, emphasizing key aspects and strong points regarding the installation and maintenance of said products.

To conclude the products part, we presented our M2CS elevator remote management tool by Xavier Soret, technical manager of the M2CS platform. This remote management platform covers all the expected aspects of remote management and is focused on the casuistic analysis of operating information to facilitate preventive and predictive maintenance.

After the presentation part, we made a visit to our facilities showing live all our engineering and production processes, all our automated management, from the reception of the order to its packaging and dispatch, focusing on the control processes and verification of compliance with customer specifications.

ARM module firmware updates are related to connectivity options with Vodafone or other roaming operators and, as users, you are unlikely to see any changes except in the form of improved performance. In no case do these updates affect the elevator information or how this information is displayed on M2CS.

The update process takes place at the time of validation of the module and will take a few minutes, during which you cannot disconnect the ARM module and should ensure the maximum possible coverage, taking into account the NOTE ON CONNECTIVITY.

Some M2CS enhancements may require firmware upgrades to ARM modules already installed. If this happens, M2CS will tell you if any ARM module needs to be updated and to update it to the latest firmware version available, simply re-validate the ARM module and follow the M2CS instructions.

To force a new validation:

1) Enter ARM Module Management.

2) From the LIFTS tab, delete the maintenance identifier; save; re-enter the maintenance identifier; and save again.

3) Go to Elevator Maintenance and validate the ARM modules pending validation.





We have received several reports of ARM-M2CS connectivity problems and in most of them, we observed the ARM module installed inside metal cabinets and frames. This practice prevents theft of the module, but very negatively affects its emitted RF signal.

We strongly urge you to follow the instructions in our installation guide about moving the module a minimum of 1m away from metal surfaces, power cables and other interfering equipment, and this includes inside metal cabinets. Note that under very favorable coverage conditions, the module may be able to operate attached to or even inside a metal cabinet, but more often than not, under these conditions, it will not have good connectivity. Therefore, it is not enough for the SIGNAL LED to be AMBER or GREEN, the module must also meet the above distance conditions.

We remind you that if the supplied 5 meter cable is not enough, we can supply a longer cable. And if you do not get good coverage, you can also use an Ethernet connection if available.

NOTE: The indication on the SIGNAL LED of the ARM module is only indicative and measures the signal received by the module emitted from the communications tower of the telephone operator. This indication is only valid if the module is located in free space, since we assume that if sufficient signal is received from the tower, the tower will also receive sufficient signal from the module. But if you place the module near metallic surfaces or even inside metallic cabinets, it is possible that the module receives enough signal, but it is very likely that the metallic structure prevents the signal emitted by the module from reaching the antenna of the communication tower, making communication impossible. In addition, the lower the signal level, the greater the effect of atmospheric conditions.

Online access to frequency inverter parameters

With our future version 9 of HIDRA Crono firmware, our customers will be able to read and write drive parameters using our web-based telemetry platform, M2CS.

This new functionality will considerably ease the maintenance of elevators, since all the adjustment can be done remotely by qualified personnel without the need of displacements.

In addition, it will allow to create a backup of the drive parameters, and save them remotely, either in the cloud or PC. This will enhance a quick restore to a new drive in the event of a possible future replacement.
